Hello. I'm Allison McNair. Welcome to this Friday Edition of New Hampshire Outlook. |
RoundtableReturn to index of stories... |
Joining us this week from the state house in Concord Norma Love of the Associated Press and from the Union Leader Tom Fahey. And joining me here in the studio Dan Tuohy from the Eagle Tribune. Thank you all for being here this week. TOM FAHEY - OUR BALLOTS IN NH MAY LOOK DIFFERENT IN THE FUTURE. DEPENDING ON HOW STATE SUPREME COURT RULES. THIS WEEK HEARD ARGUMENTS IN ELECTION DISPUTE. HILLSBORO COUNTY ATTY PETER MCDONOUGH IS CHALLENGING DEMOCRAT JOHN COUGLIN'S WIN ON BASIS THAT PEOPLE WHO CHECKED STRAIGHT PARTY BALLOT VOTED IN SOME RACES AND LEFT COUNTY ATTY RACE BLACK. MCDONOUGH SAYS THOSE THOSE VOTES SHOULD NOT BE COUNTED.COUGHLIN WON BY SOME 126 VOTES. MCDONOUGH WANT 269 BALLOTS THOWN OUT ONE BILL THAT IS SURE TO ATTRACT SUPPORT WOULD ESTABLISH A PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ADVISORY COMMISSION - TO FEND OFF ALL THE STATES THAT WANT WHAT NEW HAMPSHIRE HAS - A FIRST IN THE NATION STATUS. PRIMARY NEWSCONFERENCE TAPE 1:33:48 A GOOD DAY AT THE RACE TRACK WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY THAN BRINGS INTO THE STATE FROM THE PRIMARY. SO ECONOMICALLY IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER. IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF PROMOTION AND CREDIBILITY OF THE STATE, ATTITUDES TOWARD THE STATE, THINGS OF THAT NATURE AND IT CERTAINLY HELPS THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY. SO FROM THAT VIEWPOINT IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. NORMA- STATE EFFICIENCY COMMISSION - APPROVED IN THE HOUSE BUT DEMOCRATIC AMENDMENT TO MAKE SURE STATE WORKERS PART OF COMMISSION VOTED DOWN. NORMA BUDGET CRISIS IN MASS IS THAT FORESHADOWING OF MEAASURES TO BE TAKEN HERE? HIGHER EDUCATION AT STATEHOUSE TODAY GAMBLING ONCE AGAIN BILL ON KENO LOTTERY NOT OPPOSED.ALSO BILL ON REMOVING RESTRICTIONS ON THOSE WHO WORK IN BINGO HALLS AND THE LIKE ONLY CONVICTED FELONS NOT THOSE WHO COMMITT DAN - CAMERAS AND VIDEOTAPE IN THE HOUSE - HOUSE RULE PASSED PROHIBINNT THEM USED BY HOUSE MEMBERS MARTHA FULLER CLARK SAGA NORMA - CONSIDERATION UNDERWAY FOR CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS 1. WOULD STRIKE THE WORDS""to cherish the interest of literature and sciences and all seminaries and public schools" from the constitution. 2.REMOVE BARRIER OF PUBLIC FUNDS GOING TO RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS ASTHMA BRIEFING FROM HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES ON THEIR BUDGET BRIEFING ON CORRECTIONS BUDGET WENT TO YOUTH DETENTION CENTER ASTHMA MEDICATION BILL |
